GWL 2ND GRADE INTERDISCIPLINARY ECOSYSTEM CULMINATION
GWL 2nd Graders Study Ecosystems
Today, all second grade classes at Glenwood Landing took the stage to present their interdisciplinary Ecosystem Culmination for their families. An ecosystem is a geographic area where plants, animals, and other organisms, as well as weather and landscape, work together. Ecosystems contain biotic or living parts, as well as abiotic factors, or nonliving parts. Biotic factors include plants, animals, and other organisms. Abiotic factors include dirt, rocks, the ocean, and the sun.
For over a month, second graders studied the living and nonliving factors in three ecosystems including the ocean, pond, and forest. For their culmination today, they dressed up as various animals, plants, fish, and trees in their ecosystems. Additionally, they sang songs, told jokes, and then went back to their classrooms to present originals books and artwork to their families.
During the Glenwood Landing second grade interdisciplinary Ecosystem Culmination, students took the stage under the direction of music teacher, Ms. Curran, and created a human rainstorm for their families by beginning with silence, then rubbing their hands (wind), patting their thighs (light rain), snapping their fingers (rain showers), clapping their hands (heavy rain), stomping their feet (thunder), clapping their hands again (heavy rain), and snapping their fingers again (rain showers).
Thank you to all of the second-grade teachers and students for this successful interdisciplinary study on Ecosystems.
